The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is an all-new model that replaces the Chevrolet Aveo. The Sonic hasn’t gone on sale yet, but it has already received positive reviews from the automotive press because it has better performance, a more attractive exterior and a higher quality interior compared with the Aveo it replaces.
The Sonic also surpasses the Aveo with higher safety ratings. This week, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the Sonic an IIHS Top Safety Pick because it received the top score of “good” in front, side, rollover and roof strength crash tests. The Sonic also has standard electronic stability control, which the IIHS lists as a requirement for its Top Safety Pick award. The IIHS says that its award applies to both the hatchback and sedan versions of the Sonic.
